Interesting, but not surprising. I'm of the view you don't mess with history. Tell it factually and completely. It'll be ugly, but its the truth, or close to it.

It's a tad ironic for W&L to part with Lee because from what I understand, he saved the school and turned it into a pretty good one after the Civil War. There is also the fact that if you start with purging Confederates, you have to follow with slave owners, which means Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Mason all have to go too.

JMU has tried a little two-step, saying we'll dump Jackson, Maury and Ashby from our buildings name, but Madison stays because he did write much of the Constitution and Bill or Rights. I think that is a dishonest approach. If we're re-writing history to fit a 21st century narrative, it has to be consistent.
