Battle of Attu (11–30 May 1943)

The only WWII battle to take place on American soil, I don't think a lot of people know much about the battle, the battle ended in brutal hand-to-hand combat, and the Japanese defenders resorted to using a banzai charge at the very end of the battle. Also, I find the tactics used by both sides during the battle fascinating; particularly the Japanese side give that only 28 (out of 2,900) soldiers survived the battle. Also, I am kinda amazed how much the US lost during the battle.

Strength: 15,000
Killed: 549
Wounded: 1,148
Sick and Died from Disease: 1,814
