Yeah, I keep hearing about how the Fed is just "printing" more money

yet the overwhelming majority of transactions (if not in number, certainly by dollar volume) are cashless these days.

Is the Fed literally printing money, or it it just artificially dumping imaginary digital currency into the banks so that it becomes real?
