Or was volunteered for a day of service with my fellow employees. We worked with a non profit whose mission it was to keep high school kids from dropping out. For our day of service were assigned students who had not shown up for the beginning of school. We went to their residence to see if we could speak with their parent(s) and try to get the kids back to school. This took place in some of the poorest areas of my city. The conditions were terrible inside the homes in many cases. But the parking lots had a lot of nice cars in them. All the brands - BMW, Lexus, Audi- you name it. I was shocked then and still am today at what some folks will spend on cars but then allow their family and themselves to live in horrible housing.
