I don't think the market bears cars with the kind of tradeoffs


it requires to have 51 MPG in a plain old gas car; i.e. a riding lawn mower.

The car you are likely referencing if it had 50+ highway was the Horizon Miser. The Miser was rated at 51 Mpg sporting a 1.7L found in VW Rabbits sporting 65 HP and eschewed AC, capable of a 20 second quarter mile.

The 2020 Prius gets 58 city and 53 highway with 121 HP.

A 2015 Ford Focus offered a 1.0L 123 HP engine capable of 42 MPG highway.

We get people complaining about electric cars...for reasons. Do you think we could get them to drive lawn mowers?
