My Mom had a broken hip around 85

The hip replacement wasn't sized correctly and caused a lot of pain. Once we figured it out and had it replaced about ten months later she was great, of course that meant another recovery/rehab stint in the nursing home. We probably should have sure the orthopedist for malpractice but out main concern was getting things right.

She's now 92 and hip is fine but arthritis in her legs has gotten bad and she has gone from walker to wheelchair and independent living to assisted living, as of last week. I type this from the foldout coach in her former apartment. I am up in NY to clean it out, get rid of the furniture, etc. I won't even be allowed to visit her except standing outside her screened window at the assisted living place.

But the second hip is still fine. If things have gone "downhill" it's because of age and arthritis, not the hip.
