Read it way back long time ago

with the BST posts below this must be "way back" day.

If you dissect science fiction or fantasy books one thing you can grade on its own is "world building" or I guess "universe building" in this case. I've always considered Dune to be the best case of world building. I'm pretty sure "Star Wars" borrowed some imagery from Dune: Sand worms, dry planets w/appropriate protective clothing etc.

The detail is amazing, there's a small part where the character Paul Atriedes(?) Looked at his politically chosen wife and muses that she's pretty and what it would be like to get away and spend some time together away from the politics: something that will never happen. just amazing detail, Doesn't advance the plot but just an incredibly intimate moment in a genre that doesn't really do intimate too often. Gives you insight into the character.

Been a long time since I read it, and I read it in a rush- late at night type stuff - I'm sure I've missed a lot probably could use re-reading in a more measured fashion, . Great stuff, probably the best science fiction novel(s) ever written.
