movies were a lot about social behavior. Dates, outings, etc. But that has changed and the number of bodies was down anyway. Just seeing how theatres have cut seating to add in the big comfy chairs was an indicator that there were problems.

Streaming and the near loss of mid level releases (20 screens, and 8 showing the latest blockbuster was pretty normal). It's now nearly blockbuster with mega stars or straight to netflix anyway. So the model was going to fail soon anyway. This was the shove.

The question is how will the owners use the assets they have to create a new business model that incorporates the new consumer reality...and I'm not talking about covid...life will go on..likely starting in about a month. Unlike the music industry that took a long time to move away from packaged and retail distributed content, the movie industry had an event that fast tracked what was already happening.
