Stay away from 6.0 Ford diesels, Triton Fords and Displacement On Demand GM

the rest of your points are basically the hot selling points of used trucks, not that you can't get anything for your budget, but they all have issues.

Tacomas had frame rust problems so be EXTREMELY diligent there, so bad that Toyota was replacing entire frames for a period of time

I think the best deal going right now are your GMT800 (99-06) GM trucks. Best combination of durable engine and transmission, though not bulletproof. You will find sheet metal problems (cab corners particularly) on those.

Speaking of sheet metal, that is going to be a problem with all Dodges. Also never been a Dodge transmission guy.

The Triton Fords I mentioned are a mechanics nightmare (or dream depending on perspective). There are a bunch of people absolutely going in on the Triton engine series right now.

I sold my first ever new car, a 2012 Silverado, and bought a 2001 Dodge 2500 quad cab diesel. Took a while to find it and they have their own rack of problems, but it had no rust and a surprisingly good ride for a 3/4 ton truck, and it cost about half what I got for my Silverado. Spent the windfall renovating the master bath, among other things
