Any tricks to getting a DMV appointment

The boy needs to get set up with his learners permit. DMV stance...gotta have an appointment, and they only make appointments 90 days out. Our DMV has no available appointments in the next 90 days. I assume the appointments for the 91st day out come available at some point between now and tomorrow? Just put on a pot of coffee and work the refresh page button? Any tips on how to get him in?
