The laser can be projected on the ceiling, or even a wall if you prefer so long as the wall doesn't have a lot of red in the color (we painted our bedroom purple in our CT house and I could no longer see the laser time), in which case you just do use the ceiling.

The brand name we have is different from what PHNC is showing, but they aren't that expensive, and they're hooked up to a national clock that automatically sets the right time, and adjusts for spring forward and fall back. Just search for "Laser Projector Alarm Clock" and you'll find plenty of choices.
