I'm discovering common sense for all intents and purposes doesn't exist

At least not in the sense that common sense is in any way universal.

What constitutes common sense is derived from your experiences, choices, environment, and upbringing. Common sense is going to vary wildly from person to person. And the more socially, economically, geographically, or politically distant someone is from you, the more different their common sense will be.

To quote The Bandit: When you tell somebody sumthin', it depends on what part of the country you're standing in as to just how dumb you are.
