I would be more worried about what oil & filters they used. If you're worried about that, you can always have it changed again when he comes home.

Have another suggestion, how about taking it to the local dealer? They may be slightly more than a quick oil change shop, but you can have more confidence in their work. They use licensed mechanics...who knows who oil change shops use? Some teenager they hired yesterday?
