The truck saga..
So a couple weeks ago I posted about my 2020 Tundra. Short story is I took it in for maintenance. Service department got in a collision. Body shop fixed. Parked it in their lot and a tow truck hit it. It’s been there since being repaired. Service department told me after second wreck it might not be repairable. I went to see it but they had already done some work on it. Body shop said it was just a few dents. I was promised photos of the truck before any work was done. But for two weeks I did not get the photos. Yesterday I was called as the work is all done.
I was concerned this was going to bite me in resale value down the road. The collisions would not be on carfax but I would have to disclose to a buyer that it had body work done twice. The dealer has a well renowned body shop and they were very confident it would not detract from resale. I didn’t share their confidence. Yesterday I got the linked photo which shows the truckbed way out of line. This was consistent with what the service tech told me after the second accident but much more damage than the few dents the body shop was talking about.
The GM of the dealership got involved and yesterday they agreed to buy my truck for what I paid for it last year and sell me a new 2021 with a few more options for what i paid for the 2020 last year. So I think it’s a pretty good deal. And I won’t have to always wonder if the damage has long term impacts on the truck or if it will hurt me resale. I plan on keeping the truck for we least 10 years so it would have been a long time before I found out the resale impact. [Post edited by GreenvilleVT at 02/12/2021 08:50AM]
