Valid position.
I suppose if he takes the forfeit in ACCT and the prognosis is he can return to almost 100% by NCAAT then that makes sense. But given that this year is a freebie, it changes the equation. If this were a normal year, I would agree with you completely. I don't think pressuring him to wrestle if there is any risk to more injury is the right move, even if Trials were not pending. Experience at Trials, even if he is not likely to make it, is pretty valuable experience for future cycles and for his continued development.
I should have clarified that he should not wrestle anymore this season unless he is able to heal enough to wrestle close to 100% whether that be the ACCT or NCAAT. This free year and as a rSo, I am just not sure what VT or Mekhi gains by giving it the warrior try. It really just comes down to what the injury is and how bad it might be.
@VTwinsdad You probably didn't direct it at me, but I am not exactly new to wrestling...ignorant in some ways, yes. Nothing is given - making Olympic team is a long shot even for the very best, which Mekhi is not at this time. And winning one, never mind repeating as NCAA champion, is incredible hard for even the most gifted. I agree with you that many fans might expect Mekhi to repeat just because he did it as a rFr. I don't take that for granted, but I hope he does repeat - whether he does or not, his value to the Team is immense over the next few years.
I hope the injury was minor and it heals quickly and has no long term effects. And let's just say I am glad I don't make any decisions.
