Yep, I think this is the answer.
I've often wondered how many "totaled" vehicles are on the road now. In 2005, I went to Blacksburg for the spring game and was rear-ended on Main St. by a young kid that had probably been drinking and said he was chasing someone that had clipped his rear view mirror a few minutes prior. I was sitting still at a red light and this kid hit me going probably 40 mph. It was enough of an impact to lift my 5,000-pound Isuzu Rodeo onto two wheels. Thankfully my passenger and I were both safe, but the vehicle was totalled due to a bent frame.
About a month or two later, I got a call from a repair shop somewhere in North Carolina asking me if I had the detachable CD player faceplate and extra keys. They had purchased the vehicle from the insurance company and were repairing it.
