Not quite how it works in the end.
I work in multiple states most every year, have withholding taken for the $$ earned while working in those states, and I’m required to file income tax forms in each of those states. It’s a long story, but due to residency vs non-residency and credits as a consequence, you don’t exactly pay each state their standard rate on what you earned in each state.
This isn’t always a good thing though. I worked a significant number of hours in the State of Washington - which has no income tax - for a couple of years. But as a Virginia resident, I ended up paying Virginia income taxes on pretty much everything I earned in Washington - and Virginia. [Post edited by marcbvtgm at 03/18/2021 5:15PM]
