You're misusing the statistic here, it doesn't reflect effectiveness
The formula for usage rate is entirely based on the proportion of field goal attempts, free throw attempts, turnovers committed, and minutes played a player has vs the overall team. It's heavily weighted towards total FGA and TOs.
That's why Nolley led the ACC in usage rate last year, because he was #2 in FGA, #20 in FTA, #9 in TOs, and
not even top #40 in MPG.
If Bede had attempted 2 more shots per game his usage rate would've been 16.4%
