Clemson markets to everyone even poor recent grads
In SC it's not a good thing to have a 2021 IPTAY or Gamecock Club bumper sticker on your car, its mandatory. People look for those in the parking lots of churches in Sundays. IPTAY or I Pay Ten A Year started in the 1950s if I'm correct and by the time they won their National Championship in 1981 it was I Pay Thirty A Year (or as the Cocks like to say, I Plowed Thirty Acres Yesterday). It's up to $60 a year now (IPSAY?). For that you get a membership card, one bumper sticker, a newsletter and a thank you letter. You are part of the club. The vast majority of students come from South Carolina working class families. When an interloping wanna be from Jersey or Atlanta invades, they get the message quick to leave their Falcons, Braves, Devils and Knicks in the dust and they're Tigers now. You need not come if you aren't a Tiger, this isn't the place for you. And amazingly their families do the same. Clemson football and to a much less extent Carolina football is a passion, not a passing fancy for their former students and their families. You can say that's only because they win, but when I started living there in the 70's they hadn't beaten Ga Tech and UGA in the same season in about 20 years. And they lost every other game to the Cocks. They've had some down times, but their fans stood beside them. So lets pitch in $60, get our bumper stickers and tell our team and staff we appreciate what they do. [Post edited by N2VT2 at 03/28/2021 2:21PM]
