Or at least did....

1. When you buy fruit in the grocery store, it's kind of bundled. Some big, some small, some good, some not so good. It's the luck of the draw. When you pick them yourself, you get exactly what you want.

2. I was raised a city boy, and when I moved to smaller towns, I thought I'd have a garden. Only I suck at it. Neighbors used to bring me tomatoes because my plants looked so pitiful. So when I pick strawberries, I'm at least doing it at a place where someone knows how to have a garden.

3. There is a taste of freshness with something just picked off a tree or plant versus something that was farmed in South America and trucked to my grocery store.

4. As mentioned above, I suck at gardening. So when my daughter was young, the closest she ever came experiencing a garden that neighbors didn't laugh at was the strawberry field. She loved it.

I should mention, I'm not an outdoor kind of guy and I hate hot weather, so it was not my idea of a lot of fun. But there were definitely benefits I understood, and it made my wife and daughter happy....
