Maybe you don't like strawberries as much because you only get store bought


strawberries?

As for why I usually go picking with the family (for strawberries) 1 or 2 times a season. We also do peaches and apples in late summer and fall.

For pick your own, it's a social thing / family thing, yes. But also a money saver and, for apples and peaches at least, a way to get the variety that you like. My favorite apples are Crispin / Mutsu. They're tough to find in a grocery.

For strawberries, the local taste SO MUCH better than most any you'll find in a grocery, but they're ridiculously expensive at a store. $4.50 or $5 per pound maybe? Pick your own around here are generally $2.50. Even that seems expensive when you think "Driscolls in season are cheaper, and I don't have to do the labor myself", but again....TASTE.
