When he was at Georgetown, he declared for the NBA Draft but did not say he wouldnt be returning to Georgetown should he choose to come back. This led to Georgetown and Patrick Ewing essentially trying to rush the process and force Mac to make a decision. That ultimately pushed Mac away from Georgetown and he decided to come back and transfer.

Declaring for the draft and also entering the transfer portal means he can take the full time, get all the information and not be tied to any program or feel like he is holding anyone up in developing their roster. He would have tons of suitors should he decide to come back for another year (including Texas Tech).

It doesnt make a ton of sense for him to return to Texas Tech however. Chris Beard and his defensive acumen was the drivinf force in choosing Texas Tech, and that is gone. His draft age is getting pretty high, so this year is likely his best year to be drafted.

If I were advising him and he chose to come back, Id tell him to go to whatever spot gave him the best chance at a national title. If he is going to compete for another year and his draft stock is going to be compromised either way, then he might as well chase a title. Gonzaga pursued him out of high school and after his transfer. If they pursue again, Id take it.

That said...he is currently projected to be taken in the second round so I could see him staying in the draft.

Not sure how that would affect those who are b****ing about him transferring, as it would leave him only transferring once, but Im sure theyll find something new.
