The worst part is State laws require them to escheat the penny to you if

you go through the period without using the account. That costs them money. Sunrise bank should be calling AT&T and cursing them for your debit account.

They have more than likely the following expenses:
- Cost of an account on file
- mailing of the card
- envelope & collateral expenses (stuff mailed with the card like disclosure for regulatory purposes)
- plastics and embossing expenses
- monthly expenses should you not turn off your paper statement (hopefully they default to an online, but hey we're talking crazy/stupid at this stage)
- system, personnel, overhead, etc...
