Think I've got a friend who needs an intervention, but not for
addiction. It's for running his business and life like an actual grown-up.
Yes, he has a youthful personality, which is part of his charm and probably helps with the customer-facing part of running his business. But he has just not figured out how to adult, and doesn't perceive it as a problem.
Some random examples:
He had 20 unanswered inquiries from potential new customers spread over several months.
He let about four months go by without paying any of his business' bills other than rent. Kinda surprised nothing has been turned off yet.
Just found out today he never filed or paid state or federal taxes last year, and is nowhere close to on-track to do so this year either. He doesn't keep up his P&L statement or keep receipts for business expenses. The IRS already got a court order to garnish his business account, and Virginia isn't far behind.
If he just wants to conduct business without running the business, fine. Hire a business manager. But he keeps saying he doesn't want to do that and he can handle it all himself. Then doesn't do anything.
He really needs some percussive maintenance of some kind, but just not sure how to get through to him when he shrugs off a court order from the IRS as no big deal.
Any idea how to help a friend who just won't grow up?
