When I was driving to San Diego, spent the night in Flagstaff.

It was nice and cool when I walked out...pure paradise! I noticed as I drove down the mountain towards Phoenix, the temp kept rising, and rising, and rising... I think it was about 108, but that wasn't the hottest part of the trip...that came in Yuma (116F). My engine temperature gage started rising towards the red, so I turned off my AC and it came back down. After a couple cycles of that, decided that I would just roll my windows down and let the 65mph air keep me comfortable. That didn't work...it felt like I was standing in a blast furnace. The windows went back on, and I cycled the AC several more times before deciding to just go for it and if the engine blew, so be it. I finally reached the western side and started climbing the mountains out of the furnace and my engine temp returned to normal. Just wow!

How do people live in that kind of heat? :)
