Test drove a lot (too many) used tow vehicles
We were looking for something that could tow 6500 or so pounds. Having super comfortable seats was the #1 criteria for my wife who has back and neck issues.
The surprise of all the test drives, to me, was the Nissan Armada. I loved that vehicle. I think it looks sporty, and it drove great. My wife mostly liked the seats but not enough to buy it. (lack of trailer sway control was a concern too) Reliability was a concern, but very few 8 cylinder SUVs or trucks have great ratings for that. The Doge Ram was a great drive too. They did not have telescoping steering in any of the ones we saw so that got ruled out.
We were looking at used trucks and SUVs over a 2 month period. The prices rose substantially over that time. It was crazy to see.
I know no one cares, but here is what we drove ( I am guessing I am missing a few). I enjoyed getting to try out the different vehicles. We always drove the top trim level to get lumbar support for the passenger and better seats.
VW Touareg
Dodge Ram
Mercedes GLE 350
Nissan Armada
Audi q7
Lexus GX 470
Lexus LX 570
Lexus LX 470
Toyota Tacoma
Toyota Tundra
Toyota Highlander (before we realized we needed more towing)
Honda Ridgeline (same thing)
Chevrolet Tahoe
Toyota had the worst seats.
Ram and Lexus had the best seats. Ridgeline did too but that was never in the hunt.
Touareg had good seats too but the cargo capacity was horrendous.
The pre 2017 q7 had the worst design I have ever seen for cup holders. Not much cargo area either.
