It may not matter, but I sent an e-mail to Whit a couple of weeks ago...
...partially because of my concern about Georgia.
I shared the results of our Poppin' It fundraiser on TSL and among other items, I wrote:
"We have a great opportunity to grow the (softball) program...
"First of all, we have to do whatever it takes to keep Coach D’Amour at Virginia Tech. He has created a brand of Softball that appeals to Hokie Nation - hard-working, blue collar, no nonsense, and just fun to watch.
"Secondly, let’s make sure he knows how much he’s appreciated by giving him the resources that he needs to do the job. Between this fundraiser and an online auction that I coordinated a couple months ago, we have added $26,000+ to the Softball program. I realize those are small potatoes to the VT athletic budget, but let's make sure the school gives him whatever he needs to continue our success."
I got a very nice response from Whit that read:
"HI Chip. Thanks so much. This is outstanding. I agree on all below. I will definitely let Coach know. Like you, I am proud of them and think our future is even brighter! The giving has a big impact. Thanks again for investing in them/us. It makes a difference.
Go Hokies! - Whit"
It sounds like the leading candidate for the Georgia job is the Assistant Coach Tony Baldwin, who has been appointed the interim head coach and was characterized by Dawg Nation as "a serious candidate for the job."
Hopefully, the Bulldogs go that direction, as I don't know that VT can compete with SEC money, but I felt I needed to send the note just in case.
I do think Pete feels the love from HokieNation, so hopefully that helps as well.
