This is true, and here is the thing with Whit and the response/softball
situation.....Whit knows Pete well as they were at Missouri together for almost four years. Whit knows what the softball landscape is, better than most probably realize. Whit was there (with Pete) for two WCWS appearances (on their way to a third before he left for Cincinnati), and three Super Regional appearances. He knows what it takes to have/build a power for that sport.
Secondly, under NO circumstance is Whit ever going to address what is happening, or not happening, in an email to a donor/supporter. Just won't happen, and he is way to careful in that type of communication. Having people like @VTChip send thoughts to Whit only enhances the support he feels is necessary, as there is most definitely a pecking order within the department as to potential success (and relative potential resources). Softball is a sport that has and can be very good here. The administration knows that very, very well. There are limits, of course, so never any guarantees, but they will do what they can to keep him. The Sport Admin for softball is very close to understanding everything they need to continue to be successful and is very good at evaluating the landscape of softball here. He also oversees Track/Field and Wrestling, so needless to say, there is a lot of experience in dealing with high level coaches that others want....... We can become the power/starting to become the power that kids in our state and surrounding areas can come to and play on the big stage.......Hope we can continue the positive momentum with Softball!!! It will come with a very strong effort from all involved.
