I follow England in international team play for a variety of reasons -- but I definitely understand why a lot of people actively root against them. I also feel compelled to note that I happily support the US men's team and look forward to the day when American teams might be truly competitive on the world stage. But of course that last point doesn't factor into my interest in the European game.

Agree that England had an easier path to the final. In addition to the fact that Italy were just plain better, the seasoning that they gained by playing tougher competition was probably another factor in their favor. But I think it's good for the game when England are at least in contention for hardware.

I'm also looking forward to more great international futbol in Qatar next year!
