Crazy, 2 schools want to change conferences and suddenly the ACC is dead.

And the ACC is not even involved. I could understand the glass half empty approach if the two schools moving to the SEC were Clemson and FSU. Yes, the SEC gets much stronger, but the ACC has never been a threat to the SEC. This move does nothing yet to make us less competitive with any conference other than the SEC. And the B12 seems to be falling apart or down to G5/6 status unless they merge with the PAC. I think there is a lot of overreaction. The same overreaction took place during the last wave of expansions and the ACC survived that round.

I say the glass is half full. The B10 is prevented from getting Texas and OU, same with PAC. That makes it easier for ACC to compete with these two conferences. If B10 adds Kansas and Iowa St as some suggest, then the ACC can add Cinn and WVU, and I think the ACC will have improved more. The PAC can add the rest of the B12 if they want and financially they will at best break even. I think the ACC comes out with more improvement in that scenario than the PAC or B10. The SEC is in danger of destroying itself from within by adding too many strong teams. Not enough wins to go around. Too many dogs and not enough food and some of the stronger dogs will start to be devoured. Recruits want to go to a team that wins. That is why a team like Boise can make noise in a lower conference. Or Cinn can be preseason ranked in top 10. That is also how VT built its football reputation, by dominating a weak Big East and piling up wins. When those wins stop coming the SEC teams might find recruits going elsewhere, especially when elsewhere can still get them in an expanded 12 team playoff. The Big East had access to the BCS bowls and an easy route for VT to dominate. Beamer rode that bull to a national championship game and ACC membership. He attracted recruits that wanted to play for an exciting team that won games. No one likes to lose games. SEC expansion is going to bring more losses to elite programs than they experienced in the past. I say that is a good thing for everyone else.
