Nothing wrong with team punishment, part of team building
but, the "punishment" must be done using the same guidelines they should be using for practice and conditioning. Has to be adjusted for temp and humidity, how acclimated the players are to the conditions, their overall fitness level, etc.
The fact that a few puked doesn't mean it's too much, if it's early in the year and kids are out of shape, that is not unusual or necessarily bad. There are other issues though and they must monitor as part of it like signs of heat injuries, etc. A certified trainer should be involved and monitoring the players this time of year and the coaches should be listening to them.
