I'd start by not firing your staff...


Here's a good example. My little sister is a shift lead on a cardiac unit. She manages 7 patients at a time which is a stretch. Many of her coworkers have reservations about putting a still experimental drug in their body with long-term side effects not fully known... especially when there is no culpability to the manufacturer. As a result, they are being forced out next month.

What does that mean for my sister? She's being asked to take 9-10 patients. That's not possible and not ok. As a result, she's quitting the local hospital and going to work for a rival that includes testing as an available protocol.

The local hospital level of care is going to go to hell in a hand-basket.

Most adaptive shifts have been temporary. They're just going to have to change policies, staff up, and increase spending to accommodate this new reality because... it's the new reality.
