Friday is a massive opportunity. I’m not specifically talking about our unranked football team taking down a hated top ten team in UNC (although that would be incredible). So many things in the world right now have led to so much tension. Politics, Covid, masks, Afghanistan, hurricanes, our world is a stressful place to be right now. Friday is the opportunity for Hokies to do what Hokies do best. Friday is a chance to descend on our Hometown. The one place that understands why we love gobbles and orange and maroon. Friday is the opportunity to pitch tents, share drinks, and see those friends that only exist in the parking lot and Section 29 row 5N. Our time to celebrate a reprieve from the darkness. Let us not squander this opportunity. Fill the parking lots early, fire up the grills, enjoy a beverage or two. Center St should be busting at the seams.

Our boys have been working their tales off in the midst of all of this chaos. They have spent months away from their families, endured a season of empty stadiums and quarantines. This is their opportunity to unleash the potential they’ve been building for months. Along with that comes our opportunity as Hokies to give those maroon and orange clad gladiators what they deserve. A return to the Terror Dome.

This team deserves an earthquake. This team deserves a packed Lane Stadium an hour before kickoff (get there early digital tickets will cause back ups). This team deserves a crowd with cell phones down and eyes on them. A crowd screaming 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th down. This team deserves a crowd on their feet all four quarters. This team deserves a key shaking, punt blocking, Sandman jumping, Hokie Pokie dancing, Stick It In singing crowd. Let those Tarheels know what a real football school is. Let em know that Jump Man, Argyle socks, baby blue, “wait til basketball season” ain’t it. Let em leave with a ringing in their ears and a migraine headache.

We are Hokies. This is our town, our team and our home. Let’s give these young men what they deserve on Friday night.
