Mine enlisted in the Army at 17 in 1937. I have the letter his parents had

to write the local recruiting office in Detroit, giving my Dad their permission to enlist. They were all well rid of each other, and my Dad went on to a 27-year Army career as a combat infantry officer (WW2, Korea and Nam), then 17 years in the State Department in the Foreign Service (Africa, South America, Japan, DC).

He didn’t complete his GSA until around the mid-1950s.
