When I first started teaching elementary school in 1982...

the parents of one of my students had 2nd (dad) and 3rd (mom) grade educations, respectively. The mother started having children at age 14 and ended up with ten kids. The mother took care of the kids at their dirt-floored one-room "house" while the father/step-father worked as a hand at a local dairy.

That same year, we had one 6th grader (a 4-7 school) who would drive to school. Johnny was quite the bully, and I swear that he stayed in school just so that he could torment students and teachers.
