The Conference Championship games would essence become the playoff, I know
it's not good for ND, but I still think they could find a way to get ND and let them call themselves Indy for their big donors, let's be real that's the big reason your administration wants to be called Indy. Since WVU is out of reach for 4 more years, just bring Navy and tell ND they need to add "1" more game. They could get rid of Divisions, but use a Quad match up system for scheduling (same 3 schools every year and then rotate home and away with 4 others). Then the two highest ranked ACC teams play in Conference Championship. They need that because rankings are going to matter for the Conference Championship team.
Back to the other Conferences, they simply know if their Champion is ranked high enough, they can make it. Thus their regular season match ups (especially strength of schedule) matter. No G-5's cup caking to the playoff. You have a small stadium, hit the road, win and grow that stadium. However, the Conference Championship games for 4-6 (there is your 8-12 teams)Conferences will be like a playoff and you don't have to add a single game. ESPN and Fox will get great ratings for those basically Conference Champion playoff gamess, because they will matter. The regular season will matter because rankings matter. ND keeps their Big Donor money coming in and gets to say they are independent, just like now.
Everybody wins, everybody gets better off!!! Not just the SEC and ND, everybody!!
