Back in the day, the value of Lane was less about surprising or

intimidating the opponent and more about energizing the Hokie defense and special teams. It was so fun to be part of that fired up crowd -- knowing the D or STs was about to make a momentum-grabbing play.

I'm sure there were some opponents who were rattled by the crowd -- but mostly it was about helping the Hokies play inspired ball.
