CC mentioned in the last podcast - maybe what we thought we were getting in Fu (offensive mind) is actually more based as Beamer 2.0 It makes sense that when the defense was on more solid ground that the offense was more big play.

Recruiting classes have been solid and on par - short of the small class year and mid tier class last year.

Seems like it was finally recognized/pointed out and steps to rebuild the relationships were taken...then the Rona. To be fair, some relationships were weakening before Fu set foot on campus.

If anything, the BU interview may be the single most important part of Fu tenure. It forced the AD and BoV and donors and such as to how far behind we had fallen. I'm sure it was being talked up by Fu - but seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. It was hidden for years, or we choose not to see, based on legacy Beamer and Foster coaching and recruiting; not because of the facilities. This interview marked the start of a focused effort to at least get football funding back to competitive.

Tx2vt - disaster? At best, maybe a misallocation of resources. But with little traction with the HS in VA at the time; players come from somewhere. I think this team would have had Bryant and Wooten contributions if not for the off field causes of thier transfers. If anything, I'd imagine we see DD leave Auburn with their new staff in place.

I do wonder if HH had left first is QP would have entered. Personally, I don't think so. He was stuck. Though I'll agree we haven't seen enough developments at the position. Side note: look at Clemson this year with a 5 star QB. Tons of "better talent" and worse offense than VT as it stands thus far.

Not all decisions have been perfect. Though most seemed justified in the moment. If addressed some specific calls in previous posts.

Sure, we haven't won some of these tight games. We also lost games under not Fu we should have won. UVA loss bugs me - largely because of fans complaints. UGA hadn't beaten GT as consistently and there is a drastic difference in coaching and talent. That streak would always eventually be lost; its the nature of the sport. Side note: I would have liked for the rivalry to get back to competitive...but because UVA gained back more Welsh form, not because we are sputtering.

Bowl streak was on the players and the Rona. I'll agree it felt like a big slap in the face from current players to past players - but not sure the staff had a hand in that. Other than removing the decision from the players. Of course - then you hear "its about player's choice, he lost the locker room, etc"

Winning record streak dropped hurts. It was also close to being lost before Fu. Even the blue blood programs have worse years. Let's be honest.

All that said, maybe it is time for a change. Maybe this fanbase with its unrealistic expectations can erode away another coach. That way VT can be just like all the rest on the coaching carousel! -.- I'm not defending everything Fu - I'm saying there are far worse coaches to hire. With the resources the man has had, lack there of...maybe he has performed to the best of the program's abilities. Maybe not. I think the biggest strike against Fu is that he is the man after the man. At least rhe next coach won't have as much Beamer shadow to contend with.

Short of hiring some big offensive name - like Huepel ...not sure the identity of VT changes. A team that plays towards their level of competition; comes up short in the biggest of games. Relies on the strong defense (except when that falters). Is that what we want? To see boat races every week?
