That said - look at the longevity of continuity at both. Ferentz is in season 23. Alverez was the winningest and longest tenure coach for the Badgers...stepped down and was AD since 05 until July of this year.

Starting over in middling years - let's be honest we are middling. We aren't in the cellar. Wpuld just push continuity down the road if we find the "right fit" - which is the biggest if of all.
