You fire him, who takes over? Shibest seems like he has the experience to be next in line but where do his loyalties lie (not calling his honor into question but don't know how he would feel about this situation)? So then you say ok, let's get away from Fu cronies - how about JHam but that would be unfair to him, he is inexperienced, and you would be more than doubling his workload. Tenuta? Not sure he's set up for that at this point.
Then you have to decide ok, if you terminate Fu, what do you do with Cornelsen? Do you term him also or let him continue to call plays? Would there be any difference if Fu were to stay? And if you also fire him, you are down 2 coaches and who calls the offensive plays (not that someone on the staff probably couldn't do better)?
I don't think Fu set it up this way on purpose but man did it work out for him to avoid a mid season firing barring some egregious scandal or getting taken to the woodshed by Duke
