Because it is valid on many levels
whether the detractors want to admit it or not, and one level it is almost identical to is the number of fans who wanted Beamer gone, a convenient omission of any memories on this board.
The articles in the paper, the most influential media of the day were relentless, especially with Bill Brill down in Roanoke. He was gleefully taking shots daily, and the rising voice of the fanbase was real. It was not so different than today, just communicated in a different manner.
I'm not necessarily defending Fu, but anyone who ignores the parallels to what we saw 30 years ago is just not being honest with themselves.
