Not absolving Fuente (his fault for no QBs), but BB has been terrible. He

is 36/82 (43.9%) the last three games. I don’t buy it’s BB’s shoulder’s fault either. He pushed the ball down the field better this week than I have ever seen him do during his tenure at VT. The throw to Tayvion Robinson down the sideline was about a 46-yard rope factoring in cross field. Throw to Kaleb Smith on the last drive was also a bullet. Before this game, and the Robinson throw in particular, I had serious questions about BB’s arm strength—even against UVA last year, most of his throws did not travel far. Now I am convinced that BB is not accurate, at least consistently, if he tries to push the ball down field or spin it with any zip. It was very evident during BB’s 1/14 stretch in the second and third quarters when he was trying to zip it and was missing a lot of key throws by a mile. Any further doubt should be resolved by the fact that BB (53% completion this season) only had a 57% complete rate last year. At least year he averaged 8.2 years per completion. He is at 6.8 this season. Woof. I feel like I am watching Teddy Bridgewater, dink and dunk, except at much lower completion percentage. No thank you.

For all the cancel Fuente talk, if we lose again, I am ready to cancel BB too. Cool, he’s fast, but he has not proven to be a capable QB IMO. If we lose vs. GT it’s time for QB change as much as anything. I liked what I saw from Knox Kadum last season. Time to see if he has a future (I think the kid is a gamer). Clearly BB does not.

For perspective, Hendon Hooker averaged 9.6 and 8.9 yards per completion in 2019 and 2020. He is averaging 9.5 yards per completion this season, so it's not "the system." Jerod Evans averaged 8.9 per completion in the system. Believe me when I say, I think Josh Jackson had a squirt gun of an arm, but he even average 9.9 yards a completion in 2018 before he broke his fibula...so it's not the system, its BB.

Blame the line, blame Corny, blame Fuente; but it is sort of tough to run the ball or score points when a QB isn't a legitimate threat to push the ball down the field effectively or efficiently.
