Interesting comparison and what a coaching change can do

At the end of last season, Auburn and VT were in a very similar position. They were also rans in their division, they were underperforming their talent and not winning games they had in their grasp. Had QBs that you looked at and said, he just isn't answer, we need better.

VT kept on keeping on, and we see what happened. Nothing, same underperforming, same frustration and no hope for the fanbase.

Auburn on the other hand made the change. They said that 8-4, 3rd or 4th in the west was not good enough and as long as the current staff was there, that is what they would be. So they took a chance. Didn't just hire another SEC retread, they took a flier. People here trashed them and laughed at the idea of getting rid of an 8-4 coach. Well look at them now. With less talent than last year, they are playing better football than the last 5 years. Nix has gone from a guy that needed to go, to a guy that is making plays and not making stupid plays. He has developed more in the last 4 weeks than the previous 2 years. And more in the last 4 weeks than any QB at VT in the last 6 years. The playcalling (the biggest complaint at AU for the last 5 years) on Sat night was spectacular and took advantage of mismatches all night.

Are they going to dethrone AL? Not likely, probably still playing for 2nd in the west. But the games are fun to watch, not frustrating. The fans are re-engaged. There is hope again because while they may not know how this is going to end, they knew that how the other one was gonna end wasn't good enough.

We know who Fu is. He's a .500 coach who's teams will frustrate us to no end. Will the next one be better? Don't know, may be worse. But with change comes hope, without it comes what we've seen for 3 straight years.
