Today's 5 billionth episode of health care coverage stupidity.

2 years ago, I was on medication A. My insurer contacted me and said "We no longer cover A. You have to try B instead." So I did.

A couple of weeks ago, I get a note from the insurer saying "We will no longer cover B as of 1/1/22. We recommend A, C or D as coverage alternatives. Yes, "A" is the same A I was on 2 years ago.

So I check online and confirm that coverage for B drops at the end of the year, and that A is in fact covered now. So my doc writes a scrip for A since I'm due for refill anyway.

In the meantime, I find some decent drug company coupons or savings cards for A. I call my provider to see if coupons can be used in mail order 90 day supply situations. They can't, so I have to go retail pharmacy. OK, no big deal. But at that point, they also inform me that if my Dr is writing a scrip for A, that requires him to call them and get Prior Authorization.

Huh? I'm on B presently. The communication you sent me said "Switch to A." I'm switching to A....and he has to call for prior authorization? Why the F are you wasting his time, your time, and my time seeking authorization for a change you already told me had to be made?

Dumb. So I got back in touch with my Doc and told him the additional hoop he has to jump through.
