After reading on the athletic the hire was flawed at the beginnng

Hiring the wrong assistants and some of the existing coaches were more layback in recruiting as well as fuente not prepared for power 5 level and vt demands.. sorta hits on whit on not understanding as well.. remember at the time within a year vt replaced an ad - actually pre selected by steggar, new university president and replacing a long tenured football coach ..and basketball— all new leadership.. that is real real hard.. this is not a mid management change…
