Here's one thing about Whit Babcock...he's landed name guys before...

He hired Buzz Williams away from Marquette, which he wasn't supposed to be able to do. At Cincinnati, he hired Tommy Tuberville away from Texas Tech. I suspect he's going to start his search at the Power 5 level and see if any coach secure in his current position but not in line for the USC or LSU(or Florida or Texas, should those open up) jobs is ready to make a move to a job with a higher ceiling.

I'll throw out a couple of names I haven't seen mentioned yet, just as conversation starters-- Matt Campbell at Iowa State and Jeff Brohm at Purdue. Campbell's won in a very tough place to win, and is going to have to replace nearly all his key starters after this year. He may have taken that program as far as he can, and he might be willing to listen. Brohm's stock has never been higher after Purdue's upsets of Iowa and Michigan State, but again, that's a tough place to win consistently, and Brohm might see VT as a better option. It would take a fairly rich contract to land Brohm, but VT might be in a place now to make that investment.
