Well the SI article is written by a SEC advocate

There are 2 camps of media supporting college football. One camp feels no need to cover the entirety. Its only 20-30 media marketing giants and rest are pretend. Open the playoffs to 12 and lets get all the SEC (no one else plays football), mich ohio state, penn state, ND and thats it. Rest are pretend. (and btw, we will give the other conferences a tidy check to shut up...

Or for the good of the game, create a conference focused solution of 8, (guarantee power 5 winners, 1 group of 5) and 2 independents. THat gets the entire country embraced in college football experience. Media hates that because they have to cover all these conferences, and the conference battles)....cost too much money to cover it). (Frankly who cares about schools like VT WVU)...

The world is not always about money
