This has historically been VT weaknesses

Some feel that the only credentials and trust for the Hokies athletics is someone who 1) either went and played for VT, or 2) lived around VT or new river valley. Anyone else is perceived as an outsider and not to be trusted or will take advantage of the program. Some fans have this isolationist mentality that anything larger than Virginia and Mid Atlantic is foreign country. Some could augue that Fuente didnt really have chance, because many didnt connect to him and the hire immediately (because he was tied to tradition).

This is nothing against JC, and I'm so happy he got this opportunity and his career in coaching. He was the perfect candidate to pull the community together, while focusing the team and staff together for the final 2 games.

However, the world is changing in football, and IF VT will be a player top 15, they must hire the best candidate that will give the best opportunity to get the players, connect to the community, recruit and bring together great VT football like it was (challenging top 15 program every year. When VT is being killed by UNC and Penn State in Virginia, you dont hide you get aggressive and offensive recruiting brutal ruthless back on there recruiters.

from other contributor through ESPN, read what Ken Dorsey said about the VT Miami games. after that reputation that is what VT must return too.

about the 2001 Miami team that goes through every game that season and goes back and talks to the Miami players. Miami had beaten their rival FSU by three TD's the week before the VT game, and VT was all that stood between them and the NC game.

Ken Dorsey talks about how everyone knew about Miami/FSU, but not everyone knew how tough Miami/ VT had become at the time. Dorsey went on to say that the older Miami players knew they were in for a rock fight when they came to Blacksburg, and that they got exactly what they expected, the toughest game they played all year.

There was no moral victory that day. I don't believe in them, but I do take pride in the fact that the collection of players that VT had in 2001 didn't back down one bit from what many call the most talented team in college football history, and even more so in the fact that said great team knew VT wouldn't back down before they even arrived in Blacksburg that day. That knowledge probably saved Miami's season that day (along with 5 turnovers, but we won't go there).

But that is what I want to see from VT again. Just a "we don't give a damn if everyone thinks you're better" attitude, and a chip the size of a redwood permanently affixed to their shoulders.

THIS CAN BE DONE. but so many just have to get out of their bubble. (and BTW that is the Mentality of Charles Huff)
