If I am honest
I watched many Hokies deride Bronco for what he was trying to do and build. I didn't get it. I understood how he was trying to be a leader and builder. Since I have started working overseas for the USG I have worked with a bunch of Mormons. I would think that the percentage that I have worked with is greater than the rest of the USA. It's a weird thing.
While there are many things about the 'church' that I (agnostic) don't get or trust I have to say that the Mormons (or members of the Church of Latter Day Saint's) I have worked with are some of the best people overall. I guess working with them helped open my eyes in what I could see how he was working to 'build better people'. I can also see the loyalty and not 'firing' a friend. It is hard. There is a point of what people will do. I applaud Bronco for setting his standards. I don't like uva (the sporst teams or the 'attitude') but I applaud many things about them.
Since I am hitting my second (double) rusty nail (use a blended- I recommend monkey shoulder- also 4/1 four ounces scotch to one drambuie) and an old fashioned (old forester is overlooked- try the bottled in bond... or 1897.....seriously) I am more reflective.
then again everyone wants to rip on Fuente. I am more like him in many ways. IF (big IF) I was a head coach I would fail. I work best inside and to be a head coach requires a different level of engagement with the outside. As an introvert (which I see Fuente) I can 'get' it. It doen't help make him successful as an HC at 'our' type of school where the culture is key.
Also, if you are wondering why I am 'drunk' (and trust me...I am) at 1720 east coast time...I am in Africa (Lagos Nigeria to be exact) and it is 2320 here and I am waiting for the world to stop spinning to go to bed.
