We live in Oxford, Mi and have two sons at the HS

One is a sophomore and the other a senior. Neither was at school that day. The sophomore is virtual and the senior had a dr appointment that afternoon and didn’t go in the morning “said he wasn’t feeling well “. God was definitely watching over our family.

Oxford is a small community, reminds me of Centreville, where I grew up 40 years ago. Everyone is close and we know so many of the families. My boys knew Tate (my sophomore son has played football since very young) and Madison well. My senior gf was at the school and in the halls when another friend ran by and screamed to get out. Her sister was in a classroom but also ok.

I can’t understand or even explain how the course of a few minutes a whole community can lose its innocence. My senior son looks like a hollow shell. Maybe survival guilt. His gf came over yesterday and was not the same. Just sadness and prayers all around.
